  • This article mostly pertains to car audio but can also be used when setting the crossover for a home theater system.

When setting up full-range speakers (2-way, 3-way, etc.), it is not necessary to use a HPF.  If a speaker’s frequency response is 40Hz-20kHz, this means that it naturally rolls off at 40Hz on the low end, and 20kHz on the high end.  So even if it is asked to reproduce 30Hz, it won’t, and all is good.

However, why make the speaker try to reproduce frequencies it can’t, or make the amp work any harder than it needs to.  For this reason, it is good practice to set your HPF at the lowest frequency listed in the speaker’s frequency response. So, if the speaker’s frequency response is 35Hz-20kHz you would set it to 35Hz.

Of course, there is no harm in setting it higher than 35Hz, if you’d like, or if you have a subwoofer handling the lower frequencies.  Another reason you might set it higher, if you have a car system with 4” speakers in the rear door, but 6x9’s in the front door.  You can let the 6x9’s handle all of the low frequencies while the 4” speakers take everything above 100Hz (for example), even though the speaker's frequency response may go down to 55Hz.

There are two other methods for setting the HPF on your speaker.

    1. If your speaker plays fine without using the HPF:  Begin playing music and slowly turn up the HPF until you notice that the bass response is diminishing, then slightly turn it back until you get full response again.  This now guarantees that you have filtered out the bass that the speaker cannot reproduce without sacrificing any low frequency reproduction of the speaker.
    2. If your speaker is popping or crackling on really deep bass notes:  This may be due to installation location, or simply pushing too much bass to the speaker.  In this case, turn up the HPF until the popping stops.  This is not something that is normally suggested, but if you have a full system up and running and are happy with the results except for some popping in particularly small speakers, adjusting the HPF up a little may help.

  • Troubleshooting on a Wi-Fi Network:

    1. Unplug your router, then plug it back in.
    2. Give the router a minute or two to start up again.
    3. Make sure your phone, tablet, or computer has reconnected to the correct Wi-Fi network before checking the SmartThings app again, making sure not to connect to a guest network, as this can prevent your devices from connecting to your speaker.
    4. Use the router’s default “WPA2” security setting. Do no use “WEP” security setting on the router as this is not supported to connect your speaker with the internet.
    Troubleshooting with ethernet:
    1. Check the ethernet cable to make sure that the ethernet cable is firmly plugged in to both the router and your speaker.
    2. If possible, try connecting the ethernet cable to a different port on the router.
    3. You can also try using a different ethernet cable to make sure that the cable is not faulty.

  • 1. Disconnect/unplug the product from the network cable. If dealing with a smartphone, forget the wi-fi on the phone. 2. Shut the router completely OFF. (do not reboot, you must turn it completely off) 3. Boot the router up and let it complete it's connection with everything, usually a few minutes. 4. Shut the router completely OFF, again. This is REALLY important. Before turning it off a second time, the router still has the product in it and is looking to connect to it. Shutting it off a second time allows the router to go through a complete power cycle without ever seeing the product, so it will remove it from its system. 5. Boot the router up, again, and let it complete it's connection with everything. 6. Now plug-in/turn on the product. The router should find the product and all should work. 7. If dealing with a smartphone, search for the wi-fi and reconnect to it. All should work after this.

  • 1. Make sure all wall and power outlet switches are on, and that all switches for your speaker system are on. Switch mains power to the system on/off by pressing the bass speaker volume button located on the back of the subwoofer. This button acts as power button when pushed in. 2. Ensure that the input jack is pushed all the way into the output socket on the source device. Check all the connections and secure them. 3. Your volume settings are too low or muted. Increase your volume by pressing the + key located on the right satellite. You can also check volume from your source device. If you are using a computer, check the volume control located in the taskbar, as well as the volume control in the media player or browser. This will mean a total of three volume controls in your computer alone. 4. To mute and unmute the speakers, touch the shining + and - controls on the right-hand "stick" at the same time. Only a slight touch is needed, since these are purely electronic touchpads.
  • Unless the two remote controls are identical, you can only assign one remote control at a time to the SB16.
  • To use Chromecast, you must continue the setup in the Google Home app first.
Configuring the speaker only with Apple WAC will not enable the Chromecast feature.

  • Please try turning Bluetooth off on your phone and trying again, and make sure Location services are enabled for the Google Home app. If this does not work, certain phones are not compatible with the Google Home setup process, including the Vivo X21A, Vivo NEX S, and Vivo X9. Please use a different device for setup.
  • Use the Google Voice Assistant button on your Citation soundbar remote control when using these inputs HDMI, AUX or Optical. When you press this button, the current volume level will temporarily decrease and the Google Voice Assistant will begin listening for your command. The reason you need to use the remote control is that Google Assistant does not support Multi-channel audio from your source device (TV, BlueRay Player or TV-BOX) and therefore the mic is automatically muted unless the Google Voice Assistant button is pressed. Google Voice Assistant is always listening when streaming music over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.

  • There may be more than one reasons for this problem, but one detail is important: if establishing the connection manually, do not advance the cursor after having written all characters in your password with the up and down arrows. If you jump to the next empty position after the last character, this will be interpreted as an added character in itself, and the password will be wrong.
  • The Harman Kardon Aura Studio 2 only supports Bluetooth. The HK Controller app only works with Harman Kardon products that have WiFi connectivity.
  • It is important to use the correct HDMI connection on the BDS, marked with ARC. Also, the proper input must be selected with the AUX input selector button, which scrolls between the six AUX inputs. It always selects the AUX input that you used last, so once you have used the AUX ARC input, the BDS unit remembers it until you select another AUX input. Of course you have to have a TV which actually supports ARC.

  • No, sorry it is not possible to do so, as it requires some additional hardware changes, which the old BDS systems do not have.
  • This is because a 4K TV will force the BDS into 4K resolution (upsampling), because this gives the best picture quality, being the highest resolution possible. However, there is no such thing as a 3D 4K movie. All 3D discs are full HD (1080p), but cannot be reproduced in 4K, because 4K resolution cannot be combined with 3D. The solution is to enter the setup menu of the BDS, selecting normal full HD resolution in the picture settings menu. Now 3D movies will be shown correctly on the 4K TV.
