  • What are the details for HDCP 2.2?
    HDCP (High Definition Copy Protection) 2.2 will become mandatory for 4K/UHD content only. First source should be the 4K BD player announced at IFA for spring 2016 from Samsung. In case of HDCP 2.2, the whole chain needs to be compatible to work from source to AVR to TV. If one of the devices in the chain is not HDCP 2.2-compliant, the player will downscale the content to 1080p. No black screen. This is the theory, anyway. HDCP 2.2 is copy-protection, so it does not decode the signal, but is concerned with preserving the content from being copied and distributed on the internet. The problem of HDCP 2.2 is that it is hardware-based, and not software-based, so there is nothing we can do on our existing models, like any other AVR manufacturer or TV. Please note that self-produced 4K material is no problem, since self-produced material has no digital HDCP copy protection. Only streamed material and UHD-Blu-ray will not work, since the HDCP protection will stop the signal in the receiver.
  • What are the differences between x35 models and x85S models?
    BDS 335/635 are our low cost models, still offering the thrills of a media center with Blu Ray disc player built-in. These systems have passive subwoofers, and the subwoofer amplifier is built in to the BDS unit. The x85S models offer more features, such as Spotify Connect support, and the use of active subwoofers. All depends on your needs and what your personal preferences will be.
  • What are the improvements from the previous generation of Citation Bar?
    Compared to the Citation Bar, the Citation Multibeam 1100 adds Dolby Atmos with up-firing drivers, Multibeam surround sound, Sound Calibration and PureVoice dialogue enhancement. 
     
  • What are the leather-like patches in the HKTS 335 or 635 meant for?
    They are meant as protective pads for the satellite speakers to stand on, preventing damage and scratches.
  • What are the requirements for using Harman Kardon Allure speaker?
    There are a couple of things that you will need to install your Harman Kardon Allure speaker. 1. Amazon account (US, UK or Germany are the only ones supported now). 2. An Android device (Android 6.x and up) or Apple device (iOS 9.3 and up). 3. A Wi-Fi network with UPnP enabled. 4. Our HK Alexa setup app from the App store. If you have met all the criteria for installing your new Harman Kardon Allure speaker, then you are ready to enjoy a voice-activated speaker and great music!
  • What are the two signal cables that are in the SOHO II NC box meant for? One has silver-colored plug, the other one has black-colored plug.
    The silver cable is intended for use with Apple sources. The black cable is intended for use with Android/universal sources.
  • What can I do with the Amazon Alexa app for my Harman Kardon Allure/portable speaker?

  • What can I use to clean the enclosure?
    We recommend using a microfiber cloth to polish the high-gloss surfaces, and a vacuum with either a stationary brush attachment or hose to clean the speaker grille. Do not use water to clean the products.
  • What does "HVS" mean? I can see it as an option for surround modes.
    HVS is short for Harman Virtual Surround. This signal processing system can simulate surround effect from a stereo source.
  • What does the Sound Feedback button on the HK SB20 remote control do ?
    The sound feedback is the tone you hear when you send a command to the soundbar. This confirmation tone can be switched off, if you do not want it to be heard.
  • What do I need to create a 5.1 wireless surround system with my OMNI BAR+?
    All products must be on Wi-Fi 5GHz network, and you need two additional OMNI+ speakers of the same model (2 x OMNI 20+ for example) to create 5.1 wireless surround sound.
  • What do the buttons do on the Vi Personal Trainer?
    (+) Button A short press will increase the volume. A long press will skip to the next track. (-) Button A short press will decrease the volume. A long press will skip back a track. Middle (Multifunction Button) A short press will play/pause music or answer/end calls. A long press on the middle button will turn the device on/off.
  • What do the surround mode functions do?
    All of the surround mode functions in our devices work in different ways, and some might be useful in certain situations. Here is a list of each mode, explained with more details. HVS surround mode: Is the abbreviation for HARMAN Virtual Surround. It will process the signal to simulate a surround effect from a stereo source. DSP Bypass: Surround Off (DSP or Analog Bypass) = 2 CH STEREO. When this mode is selected, the BDS will pass the analog source material directly through to the front left and right speakers, bypassing the digital processing circuitry. Stereo mode: Turns off all surround processing and plays a pure two-channel signal or a downmix of a multichannel signal. The signal is digitized and bass management settings are applied, making it appropriate when a subwoofer is used. Pulse-code modulation (PCM): This method is used to digitally represent sampled analog signals, and two channels (stereo) is the most common format. PCM Stereo is what standard Audio CDs always use. Dynamic Range Control: This setting makes the loud and quiet parts of a movie or music sound closer to the same volume (a process known as compression). Compression lets you turn up the volume so you can hear the quiet parts without the loud parts disturbing other people. NOTE: This feature works only with Dolby Digital programs that have been specially encoded. Three settings are available: •• Off: Never applies compression. Use this setting when the volume may be as loud as you desire. •• On: Always applies compression. Use this setting when you want the volume to be as quiet as possible without making it difficult to hear spoken dialogue. •• Auto: Applies compression based on information encoded within the Dolby Digital bit-stream. The receiver will selectively apply compression only during the most dynamic parts of the soundtrack.
  • What formats are supported via DLNA?
    ONYX and AURA supports PCM, WMA, AAC, FLAC and MP3 via DLNA.
  • What formats does the optical input supports?
    The optical input supports these formats: 2-ch PCM with 44.1k or 48k support, and Dolby Digital (1.0 to 5.1 channels).
  • What happens if Harman has to change my order?
    In some cases there may be an unforeseen stock limitation or products may no longer be available. We will try to inform you by email as soon as possible of any delays and/or unforeseen changes.
  • What happens if you have multiple Citation speakers, will all react to "Hey Google" or "OK Google"?
    All speakers are set to react when you use the keywords to interact with Google. To eliminate multiple speakers talking at the same time, using the "Microphone Mute" button will stop the speaker from reacting to the keywords.
  • What HDCP version is featured in the AVR and BDS models?
    All AVR models up to and including 151S, 161S and 171S feature HDCP version 1.4. (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection). This is also true for BDS 280, 580, 280S and 580S. It is not possible to update to version 2.2 with any software/firmware update, as this requires a hardware change. Future models may feature version 2.2, made for UHD/4k content.
  • What HDMI version does the SB20 support?
    The Harman Kardon SB20 supports HDMI 1.4 with ARC to the TV.
  • What HDMI version is supported for AVR 1x1S models?
    Our AVR151S features HDMI 1.4a with 3D ready. AVR 161S and AVR 171S feature HDMI 2.0 with 3D ready. HDR is not supported.
  • What is connect+?

  • What is Dolby Atmos?
    Dolby Atmos is a 3D surround sound format. Using Dolby Atmos, the Citation Multibeam 1100 can reproduce multi-channel surround sound including height channel. For more information, visit Dolby Atmos at https://www.dolby.com/technologies/dolby-atmos. 
     
  • What is Proposition 65?
    What is Proposition 65? Proposition 65 (“Prop 65”) is a California law that requires businesses to provide a warning before exposing individuals in California to any of 900-plus chemicals that California lists as a carcinogen or a reproductive toxicant (“Prop 65 List”). The list is available at: https://oehha.ca.gov/proposition-65/proposition-65-list. The law includes specific warning language that can be used by businesses to comply. The specific warning language is called a “safe harbor.” Why is Harman including this warning? The chemicals in products that require the Prop 65 warning can vary based on product type. Many of the chemicals on the Prop 65 List are common additives found in products such as jewelry, lamps, ceramic tableware, food, lead crystal glasses, electric cords, automobiles, beauty products, and furniture. Does this law apply everywhere? No, Prop 65 warnings are only required under California law. Are Harman products that display the Proposition 65 warning safe? Harman is committed to making products that comply with all applicable laws and that are safe to use. California’s Prop 65 is not a product safety law, but a chemical right-to-know law. We believe our products are safe when used as intended. I purchased this product outside of California, why does it include a Prop 65 warning? Harman sells products throughout the U.S. We do not know where each item will ship.   • What is the difference between AURA and AURA Studio?
    AURA Studio is a Bluetooth speaker plus microphone built-in, where AURA has Wi-Fi built-in for AirPlay, DLNA and Spotify Connect solutions.
  • What is the difference between Dolby Atmos and MultiBeam?
    Dolby Atmos is an object-based surround sound format. Harman Kardon MultiBeam is a beam-forming surround sound system that creates a wide surround sound effect.
  • What is the difference between the BDS 335 and BDS 635?
    The BDS 335 system is a 2.1 sound system, and speaker set included in this version is HKTS 335 speaker system. The BDS 635 system is a 5.1 sound system, and speaker set included in this version is HKTS 635 speaker system. That is the only difference between these two systems.
  • What is the difference between the cable with silver and the cable with black plugs?
    Since there is no fixed standard for headphone connections, there are two cables in the box, with different polarity. If one cable does not give good audio results, try the other cable. This usually solves the problem. The majority of phone models (Apple, Samsung from Galaxy S2 model, LG, HTC, Sony, Motorola, Blackberry) require the audio cable with the silver plugs. Pin assignment in this cable from the tip of the plug: R/L/Ground/Microphone. However, some manufacturers, such as some models from Nokia, require a cable with different pin assignment, (R/L/Microphone/Ground). In this case, you should use the audio cable with the black plugs.
  • What is the Frequency response of the Citation series?
    The Frequency response for the Citation series, except the subwoofer, is 50Hz to 20Khz.
     
  • What is the function of the EQ Button in the remote app for AURA?
    The EQ Button activates a special "wide stereo sound" effect. It does not affect bass settings. Turning EQ On/Off does not reset bass level to default value. User can adjust BASS in the Bass +/- control in the APP.
