This 425-watt, high-performance, 5.1-channel A/V receiver gives you more ways to connect to your favorite music, movies and shows. There are countless ways to access and store your favorite media, from external hard drives to set-top cable boxes to smartphones. But if your home audio/video receiver doesn’t give you options for connecting to those media, it’s borderline useless. The Harman Kardon® AVR 161S gives you a simple way to connect to everything you love. This 425-watt, 5.1-channel, networked audio/video receiver is loaded with options that let you access your media. It features five 3D-ready HDMI® 2.0 inputs, including one compatible with MHL, so you’ll have more than enough ways to access content on your HD cable box, Blu-ray™ player, MHL-equipped portable devices. It also includes Spotify Connect and HARMAN TrueStream Bluetooth® technology so you can stream high-fidelity audio from your mobile devices. Regarding sound, the AVR 161S features our exclusive Natural Sound Processing (NSP), which creates a rich, enveloping sound from any source – particularly with two-channel streaming content. And to get the very best sound based on your speakers and listening environment, its new EZSet/EQ™ III process automatically calibrates the system. And with HARMAN GreenEdge™ technology, the AVR 161S Sis environmentally friendly, too.
FAQs & How-Tos

HDCP (High Definition Copy Protection) 2.2 will become mandatory for 4K/UHD content only. First source should be the 4K BD player announced at IFA for spring 2016 from Samsung. In case of HDCP 2.2, the whole chain needs to be compatible to work from source to AVR to TV. If one of the devices in the chain is not HDCP 2.2-compliant, the player will downscale the content to 1080p. No black screen. This is the theory, anyway. HDCP 2.2 is copy-protection, so it does not decode the signal, but is concerned with preserving the content from being copied and distributed on the internet. The problem of HDCP 2.2 is that it is hardware-based, and not software-based, so there is nothing we can do on our existing models, like any other AVR manufacturer or TV. Please note that self-produced 4K material is no problem, since self-produced material has no digital HDCP copy protection. Only streamed material and UHD-Blu-ray will not work, since the HDCP protection will stop the signal in the receiver. Was this helpful? Thank you for your feedback!
